Scar Release Treatment (Dolphin Neurostim)
HOPE Physical Therapy & Wellness offers a natural and holistic treatment that is a combination of Western and Eastern treatment techniques and philosophies. This approach provides pain relief from acute and chronic pain. MPS Dolphin Neurostim therapy uses concentrated microcurrent applied to acupuncture and trigger points to improve cellular healing, lymphatic flow, and to sedate pain.
We also use MPS to treat scars (new and old) to release adhesions and promote healing. Scars can often cause continued problems from layers of tissue that get stuck together beneath the scar which can cause pain to linger. Scar adhesions can compress nerves, affect muscle function, change energy flow, and affect blood and lymph flow through the affected area.
We are able to visually change the appearance and mobility of scars in one treatment session! Scars that we often treat include those from breast augmentation or reduction, mastectomy, top surgery, removal of deep moles or skin lesions by dermatologists, facelift or facial scars from surgery or trauma, c-section, trauma scars, abdominal scars from surgery, bunionectomy, neck or back surgery scars. No matter how old the scar is, we can usually make significant changes!
MPS Dolphin Neurostim is an effective treatment that has been utilized for more than 25 years. All of our Physical Therapists at HOPE PT have extensive training in MPS Dolphin Neurostim treatment and use it on a regular basis to treat patients holistically in conjunction with manual therapy techniques. We use MPS to treat pain, swelling, scar tissue, acute and chronic pain, post-op pain, headaches, scoliosis, pelvic floor pain, improve breathing efficiency, and so much more.
Orthopedic Surgeries and Injuries
Scars from surgeries or trauma to soft tissue can cause adhesions (tissue that sticks together). Adhesions can limit joint movement, cause functional problems, and promote swelling and pain. Lymphatic compromise (swelling) may slow the healing process. Nerves can become entrapped and muscle function can decline.
Abdominal Surgery
Surgeries such as a C-section, hysterectomy, tummy tuck, appendectomy, colon resection, bladder lift, exploratory surgery, etc., can cause scar tissue that may affect muscle and nerve pathways. These scars can also cause poor posture and contribute to body-wide pain conditions.
Often, clients report improved digestion, menstruation, less cramping, bloating, swelling, and an overall release of tension after this treatment.Scars on the anterior body tend to cause muscle and fascia restrictions that pull the body into a forward flexed posture, affecting body alignment. We mobilize tight joints and rebalance posture once the scars are released.
Breast Surgery
Mastectomy, lumpectomy, breast augmentation or implant removal, radiation, and breast lifts or reductions can cause scar tissue in and around the breast that can promote lymphatic compromise, pain, and decreased mobility of the arm and trunk.
Dolphin MPS treatment often improves scar appearance, mobility, and texture, and decreases tightness or discomfort, usually after the first treatment.
We use manual therapy to mobilize the neck, back, ribs, and shoulders to make sure full, pain-free function is restored post-breast surgeries.
Cosmetic Surgery
Long after the scar has healed, remaining adhesions can cause problems such as pain, numbness, swelling, or even headaches. If the muscles and fascia are restricted from a scar, the result is poor posture and compression on nerves and blood vessels, all contributing to pain and dysfunction.
Treating the scars with Dolphin MPS can repolarize the new scar tissue which opens lymphatic channels to reduce swelling and help release adhesions of the tissue in and around the scar.
Dolphin MPS can immediately improve the appearance of scars and tissue around a cosmetic surgery site. We commonly perform this treatment following surgeries on breasts, face lifts, eyelids, nose procedures, tummy tucks, excess skin removal scars after weight loss, or any other post-operative scar.
We combine MPS treatment with manual therapy and dry needling for a completely holistic healing approach.
Treatment Process
Microcurrent (a direct current that occurs in nature) from the Dolphin MPS units are applied to the skin by your Physical Therapist using protocols specifically tailored to your problems and goals. Each session lasts from 15-30 minutes depending on the area being treated. Scar tissue adhesions can be released in as little as 5-6 visits, having a drastic improvement in scar appearance, color, soreness, and tissue mobility of the scar.
